The company’s owner; David Haythornthwaite lived in America for 13 years from 1984 – 1997 which is where he first became interested in the concept of nutraceuticals.

Still living in New York but commuting back to the UK at weekends, David founded VetPlus. Starting from a bedroom in his parents home, David took the original concept and pioneered the development and acceptance of nutraceuticals within the UK veterinary profession

1996
VetPlus move to their first offices ‘Wild Goose House’ in Goe Lane, Freckleton, an old slaughter house hence the name Goe which was shortened from ‘Gore’.

1997
We developed and patented our first product Synoquin, which is still a veterinary favourite today, with over 1.5 million bottles sold worldwide. At the time my father told me I would be lucky to sell the first batch of 144 bottles!

Synoquin launched at BSAVA in Birmingham

Launched Synoquin for cats and Synequin for horses.

2000
Launched Cystaid and Coatex EFA.

2002
It’s a big year as we move to new premises in Dock Road, Lytham and start to manufacture our own products in house including tablets, capsules and powders.

2003
We open our first overseas subsidiary in Barcelona, Spain. Aktivait, a revolutionary product for Alzheimer’s in dogs and cats is launched.

We take on our first international distributor; ‘John. Mademochoritis & CO’ in Greece

Irish subsidiary opens in Dublin

David recognised the growing threat to Veterinarians from Corporate Groups and Internet Pharmacies and launched the ‘100% Dedicated to the Independent Veterinary Practice’ campaign

VetPlus moves into its present headquarters at Boundary Road just a mile from its Dock Road facility, investing over £3 million in a purpose built manufacturing facility which is granted cGMP status (Good Manufacturing Practice) two years later

Synoquin Tasty launched. The company also invested in a ‘blister’ packing line as well as paste and sachets forming machinery.

Germany subsidiary opens in Dusseldorf

Synoquin EFA launched, the first supplement to combine Dexahan, an EFA with chondroitin and glucosamine.

Our American Subsidiary is established in Atlanta, Georgia. We are now back in the “Home of Nutraceuticals”
