What Can Lead to Poor Coat Health?

Bacteria Build Up

Typically caused by infrequent washing which leads to an over-growth of bacteria that naturally live on the skin

Coat Health

Sometimes cats and dogs have a poor quality coat, which may be anything from mild thinning through to areas of hair loss

Skin Complaints

One of the most common health problem in cats and dogs

Fungal Growth

Usually caused by an over-growth of a type of yeast that naturally lives on the skin, or fungal pathogens, such as ringworm

Skin Irritations

Perhaps the most common use for Coatex is skin related allergies.

Excessive Itching

Itching or scratching more than usual.

Signs of Poor Coat Health

There are many signs of potential coat health problems in cats and dogs, some of which may lead to skin complaints.  The main ones to look out for are:

  • Hair Loss
  • Dull coat
  • Dry or reddened skin
  • Scaly or flaky skin
  • Itchiness
  • Poor hair growth

Why Should I See My Vet?

At VetPlus we believe vets are best placed to advise on the best course of action for your pet.

During playtime and when fussing your pet, feel their coat and look for any potential infection sites. You should also keep a close eye on your pet to see if they itch, scratch or grooming more than normal.

  3. Wait a few minutes – Leave on the coat for a few minutes
  4. Rinse thoroughly – Thoroughly rinse off your pet, making sure to rinse around the ears and belly

Can I Use a Human Shampoo?

There are some stark differences between human skin and your pets skin, for example the cells in human skin are thicker than that of dogs and our cells regenerate at a faster rate. Because of this, a wider range of chemicals are often found in human shampoos than in those specially formulated for pets. Speak to your vet for further guidance.
